Opening Doors: The Art Of Inclusion

Twenty artists have been selected to transform ordinary doors into Opening Doors: The Art of Inclusion works of art over the next three months, focusing on the theme of bringing people together.

The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham and the Arts Council of the Valley invited area artists to submit proposals for using household doors as blank canvases to highlight and celebrate inclusion, acceptance, unity, diversity, and belonging.

Artists selected for the project are: Pat Augsburger, Rosie Clark, David Cowardin, Elliott Downs, Tamara Grant, Jeffrey D. Guinn, Jerry Holsopple, Michael Hough, Sydney Hunter with Alex Hazard, Kathleen Mitchell Johnston, Lana Lambert, Emily Leary, Maria McIntyre, Christopher Michael, Justin Poole, Emily Quesenberry (on behalf of Turner Ashby Applied Art Class), Alexandra Thompson, Laura Thompson, Herb Weaver, and Delaney Westwood (on behalf of OASIS Fine Art & Craft).

Finished doors will be displayed throughout the community during Spring/Summer 2023, with a variety of activities planned to encourage interaction. With the culminating event being on October 1st of 2023. This final event will be hosted at the Court Square Theater in Harrisonburg where there will be drinks and food provided along with entertainment.
