The ARCessible Art Program
The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham has a long-standing tradition of fostering creativity and self-expression for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Since the days of the OP Shop, our organization has provided meaningful opportunities for arts and crafts within our programs. Today, we are proud to continue this legacy with the ARCessible Art Program, offering dynamic, community-based art experiences for our participants.
The ARCessible Art Program was created to provide artists with IDD the opportunity to engage with the broader community through their creativity and artwork. Led by Marketing and Programming Specialist Nathanael Eby, this program offers a diverse curriculum that explores various artistic mediums and creative techniques. Sessions take place at a variety of community locations, including Horizon Gifts, the Massanutten Regional Library, and the Lucy F. Simms Center. In addition to our regular curriculum, our artists will also have scheduled opportunities to collaborate with local artists, attend specialized workshops, and visit professional studios for inspiration.
As part of our commitment to showcasing the incredible talents of our artists, we are expanding our presence through exhibitions that celebrate their creativity. These art shows not only highlight their artistic achievements but also provide opportunities to sell their work, helping to fund their future creative endeavors. Stay tuned for announcements about upcoming exhibitions and events!
You can view and purchase artwork from our talented artists through our online art store on The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham’s website. Your support helps sustain this vital program and empowers individuals with IDD to share their artistic voices with the world.
