  • Community Engagement

Our Community Engagement program helps individuals to understand and become a part of the community and to empower families and self-advocates to access community services, resources, activities and programs.

  • In-Home Support

Community coaching with a Direct Service Professional provides additional support for individuals who want to learn, keep, or improve specific skills either in their home or out in the community in a one-on-one setting.

Services include assistance with navigating public transportation, grocery shopping, financial management, cleaning, cooking, personal hygiene skills, and other related skills that enhance independence.

  • Community Coaching

When an individual has behavioral barriers that keep them from engaging with the general public, such as sitting on the sidewalk and refusing to move in a heavily trafficked area, a Direct Service Professional can work with them one-on-one to address these issues. Community Coaching provides the tools and support needed to overcome these barriers so that the participant can fully engage with their community.

  • Respite Services

Respite Services include short-term relief for primary caregivers of individuals with disabilities by trained staff of The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham. Respite is conducted in the participants’ home and allows caregivers to attend to daily needs such as grocery shopping and personal doctors appointments while Direct Service Professionals care for and engage with their adult child(ren).

  • Virtual Programming

The Arc of HR now offers virtual programming for participants via Zoom to help our community stay safe and connected during COVID-19. Program participants and staff gather on weekdays to chat about current happenings, take virtual tours around the world, read and sing together and so much more.
