Building Community Through Collective Care – Workshop by Letitia Bates
Sponsored by the MLK Day of Service Grant, Building Community Through Collective Care is a facilitated community experience that honors service, strengthens connection, and invites participants to reflect on how collaboration and everyday acts of care build a healthier, more connected community.
If you are attending, we encourage you to bring a box or bag of nonperishable food items so that, together as a community, we can demonstrate our commitment to collective care by supporting an upcoming local food drive for families in need, organized by The Arc and our neighborhood food security partners.

What to Expect
This workshop invites participants to reflect on the many ways care, service, and connection shape our communities. Through guided conversation and shared reflection, participants explore personal experiences of service, including both visible acts of support and the quieter ways care shows up in everyday life. The experience emphasizes how belonging can build confidence and how advocacy often grows through relationships and mutual support. Participants will also consider how collaboration strengthens communities and how acts of service ripple outward through networks of people who support one another. Rather than focusing on problem-solving or program design, the workshop centers on reflection, storytelling, and connection, encouraging participants to recognize the power of collective care and consider how they might carry that spirit of service forward in their daily lives.
