2022 Great Community Give
April 20th between 6:30 AM – 8 PM
Help us reach our goal of $15,000 to place towards our transportation services today!
The most recent Harrisonburg-Rockingham Healthy Community Council Survey (2016) identifies transportation as the single greatest barrier to accessing services and employment in our locality. The survey identifies people with disabilities and the elderly as the populations most significantly impacted by this lack of transportation. In order to provide services, reliable and ADA Accessible transportation is absolutely necessary for us. Many of our program participants live in the rural outskirts of Rockingham which requires daily pick ups and drop offs. Without this service, our friends would not get the same opportunities that most of us have taken for granted like going to the mall or meeting up with their friends at a park. Not only does transportation directly impact their access to community and public services but it also allows them to practice living independently while providing respite for their caregivers.
The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham (HR) is a nonprofit fighting for A Life Like Yours every day for those living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families in this area. Our work transforms lives through in-person direct services, advocacy, and community engagement. We provide community engagement, in-home supports, one-on-one coaching, and respite services for caregivers of adults with developmental disabilities.
